Cloud Security
Five Tips for Staying Safe in the Cloud
Poor cloud security practices are rife, causing thousands of data breaches every year. David Locke, EMEA chief technology advisor at World Wide Technology, shares his tips on how to avoid becoming a cloud statistic
1
Visibility
“Just knowing what you've got, where it is and how it's connected, who's got access to it, those quite simple questions, but actually a very hard to know, completely, you know hundred percent, because often it's not just your assets, it's third-party assets as well you're connecting to.”
2
Patching
“The benefit that you've got with the cloud providers is that they're effectively patching the infrastructure for you and all you have to worry about is the code you drop into a virtual machine”
3
Segmentation
“Ensure that things are properly segmented either for regulatory reasons or policy reasons, so that you can actually manage them with different levels of security.”
4
Tools
“If you've got 70 tools to do all these different jobs, who's managing the tools? How do you know that they're still valid and current and doing the right thing? And do they talk to each other because sometimes that information from one is very pertinent to another.”
5
People
“Time, resources, people with the right knowledge, the cycles to actually do this type of activity stay on top of it and keep it current.”
